What should I choose...
I'm watching IFE, using my Laptop, listening to iPod, chating with seat mate and flight atendents, reading book or magazine, looking out the window, sleeping, sometimes walking around...
We are speaking about loooooooooooong flight, right?... : ) |

The window is the "ultimate" source of entertainment. Reading and crossword puzzles pass the time.Chatting with a seat mate is OK. But the window provides peace and tranquility, beauty and ever changing splendor. |

There are too many choices. On a long flight, I look out the window, listen to my iPod, play my Gameboy, and read. |

A little of everything really. Ussually read, watch the IFE, play with my camera, look out the window, eat/drink, talk a little, and go for a short walk every couple hours.
Window is probably the most common one. Love just staring out the window on planes, great time to think about and sort out whatever comes to mind.

lets see, window time is a givein on any flight, espically on takeoff and landing, once we get out over the ocean though and the sun sets or we chase the noon, I put away my gear and settle in for the free movies. maybe take a stroll in between and get to know the crew, how long they've been with the airline and what got them into flying for a living in the first place...maybe even see if they've heard any rumors for vacancies or a.net gossip! |

Defintely looking out the window! On any airplane, I'm like a kid in a candy store - both for the scenery and majesty of flying and to look at the wing of the aircraft. It's the most fun I have without taking off my clothes! |

I'm a window guy and love looking at the scenery, especially in remote arctic places like alaska, siberia, greenland. The problem I have though is that the flight attendants bark at me for keeping the window shade opening while everyone else tries to sleep at 3 in the afternoon. Anyone else have this problem? |
Username: GeorgL Posted 2007-05-16 01:00:01 and read 32768 times.
I've had the window shade problem only when I've been falling asleep and looking out of the window at the same time... When I'm fully awake then they haven't bothered me. |
Username: SQA350 Posted 2007-05-19 08:14:27 and read 32768 times.
Awww, the old "Please lower the window shades" problem!!!! I hate that. But in that case I pull the blanket over my head and move very close to the window, so that no or little light goes through...and I can still enjoy the view.
...and if there is no window seat available I DON'T FLY! Luckily never happened so far, but last time I had to downgrade myself to economy, because no window seats available in business class... |

It depends on the flight.
If it's over the sea anything but looking out of the window.
The longest flight I've made it's a 3 hour one from Barcelona (El Prat) to Tenerife-Norte (Los Rodeos) and when flying over Spain, Portugal and Morocco it's interesting looking outside but when you are flying over the Atlantic and there's no land to see just seeing the clouds (if they are) it's not the best way to spend 3 hours, so buying some aviation magazine in the airport before checking-in it's a good option and obviously it depends on who are you travelling with... chating it's another way to spend the time.
Not an easy question to answer. |

Is there a vote for anything BUT talking to a 'seat mate'. I loathe talking to people and pray the seat next to me will be empty so I don't have to get involved with some dopey chat with a person I'll never see again EVER. And it's worse if it is like last Sunday when I flew back from DTW-FLL...this woman had the phone in her hand and ready to power up as soon as the wheels touched the ground, holding it like a stopwatch. Are you kidding me??!??!!?! What did people do before their toys?
Look out the window and enjoy the technological wonder that is your aircraft. |

Have suffered the aisle seats a few times though, which obviously ruins things. Frustration sets in when you realise the guy at the window doesn't appreciate you staring in his direction, just to admire the view - outside the window.

It really depends on time:
During a daylight flight I prefer to get a window seat facing away from the sun. That will maximize the views out of the window. IFE will only be used to show the moving map or some music should clouds persist for hours.
.
On a night (aka. red-eye) flight I will opt for an aisle seat and try to sleep for as long as possible, often declining dinner and breakfast when flying from the U.S. to Europe - but only after having sipped some glasses of champagne.

I probably would be able to do all of the above in a single two-hour flight. Listen to and/or watch something on my Archos, use/watch/listen to the IFE, look out the window, drink a lot, converse AND sleep a bit.
BUT, all of this depends on the phase of flight.
During T/O, approach and landing, I look out the window, drink and listen to music.
During cruise, I watch a movie on the IFE or on my Archos, use my laptop and drink/eat.
During red-eyes, I try to sleep a bit.
Etc...
You really can't pick only one of those options. |

Back in the day we could smoke in the back Id like a to drink a lot. Not from fear of flying, it was just more of a party back in the day. Remember when you had to ride the school bus back in the late '70's and 80's, all the cool people sat in the back, no matter what race! If my old buddy from the AF happens on here, I still got some cold ones, Freebase, and you got some balls when we were in England as a black kid spouting off Subhumans lyrics while we're on the National Express Bus to Cambridge. Miss ya buddy, and yeah, so does my wife. You would have died your ass laughing seeing me as a flight attendant, TSgt Rona Chapman did, but she gained some stirpes since I got out! And somehow she looks younger. Probably because it's been about 14 years she's been my boss. |
