I just came back from O'hare picking up my dad, and I saw at the very end of Terminal 5 (International Terminal) was parked at Northwest Airlines DC-10. Now my first guess is it is a charter, but ORD already gets Apple Vacations, Funjet, ATA charters... so i don't know.

Anyone know what it was doing at ORD? At the international terminal? Maybe a substitute for a KLM 747-300 AMS-ORD?

I doubt it was a charter because NWA or MLT Vacations (the charter company they own and sometimes fly for) doesn't use ORD. However, I couldn't verify any other use for the aircraft.

Funjet is the company that sells the ATA charter flights from ORD, but I think some other companies sell ATA charters as well. Funjet/ATA had a ticket counter in terminal 5 but i do not know if that still exists.

NFL charter bringing in the Philadelphia Eagles is my best guess.

Mah4546... why would it be at the international terminal then? NW has it's own gates at ORD, and they are good enough for a DC-10. NW parked 747s there when they flew to ORD.

Here it is I found the flight tracker PHL-ORD. Northwest flight number was 9976 arrived ORD at 2:43pm Friday afternoon it's a DC10. That's Eagles football teams flew on it.

So I guess they used the international terminal domestically somehow, just like Spirit does. They somehow get around sending passengers through customs. Sun Country used the international terminal for flights to MSP as well.

Virtually every weekend someone ask what is that Northwest aircraft (DC-10, 757,747)doing at their airport. Almost always it is an NFL charter.

The NFL teams do not want to use the regular terminal because it would be too much of a mob scene. The aircraft is almost always parked at a remote location. The team arrives by bus and goes right onboard the aircraft

If you all are saying that it was for the Philadelphia Eagles it's not. Mostly all sports team's planes are at Midway if they can be able to land and take off too.

Bobnwa- this aircraft was parked at the last gate at Terminal 5, a gate that is almost never used, but not at a remote location like you said.

I'll bet the passengers will not board or deplane thru the regular teminal. They will do this right from the ramp.

I said mostly all sports planes are at MDW if they can fit the runway to take off and land. Sometimes they go to ORD too.

I saw a Sport Hawk 727 at ORD in July... I am guessing there was a Sports team on it... and the point is a 727 can land at MDW but it went to ORD.

Twa that gate is used daily man, SAS uses it for their 767 that comes daily, on the other side Spirit uses the other gate for the MD-80s and DC-9s. That is NOT a remote gate by no means, all of those gates by T-5 are used.

I know it IS used, but still rarely. I never said it was remote. But theres like one hour a day when all T5 gates at ORD are full. Thats when all the euro-flights arrive. The SAS flight you mentioned, they have two to ORD. One is before the other European flights, and the other one to Copenhagen doesn't leave until 10PM. It is the last flight to Europe out of Terminal 5.

I saw a NW DC-10 at ORD on Monday, January 7th. I was wondering what it was doing there. Charter for the Jaguars? Leaving a day after the game?

Better than seeing it, I also got a picture of it:

I'm not up to date on the schedules and such so I didn't know for sure it was out of place. I was wondering why nothing made sense on the NW arrivals/departures boards.

(Yep, went over to that spot again Mark. Too bad it's pretty much just a quiet place for employees to take their brakes now. You can get there from UA Terminal 1 without leaving the secure area.)

Mike I was just gonna say... coolest place in ORD. I came back from PUJ on January 6th... at 4AM. You didn't see a Air 2000 Boeing 757-200 there did you? Apple Vacations leased G-OOBB and is flying it ORD-PUJ-ORD. I've been on that if you saw it.

PUJ is Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.

Yeah the end of L is deserted now. The gate on the right tip, the side thats across from the AA gates is the Comair gate now, and the other side is usually a 757 to ATL. The rest of the L gates are ex-TWA flights, L1/L3 is Apple and the first two are ex-TWA AA flights to STL.
The other L's are all Delta to SLC CVG ATL

You are correct! I saw the flight tracker was landed in PHL already. It's NWA DC10. We lost Bears game. Oh well..
