Quote: Abu Dhabi-owned Etihad Airways is poised to splash out around $20 billion on up to 100 planes in what would be the biggest aircraft order so far this year, its CEO said on Tuesday.
James Hogan said Etihad was in advanced talks with aircraft manufacturers Boeing and Airbus for "between 50 and 100 aircraft" and a deal could be finalised with in the next couple of months, reported the UK's Daily Telegraph.
First deliveries of the new aircraft, which could include more of Airbus' A380 superjumbos, are earmarked for 2011, Hogan said.
"We're looking at narrow-bodied, wide-bodied and very large aircraft, A380s or B747-8s," he said.
The carrier has ordered four A380’s already, with two to be delivered in 2013 and a further two in 2014.
Etihad and Dubai airline Emirates on Tuesday said that they faced further delays on delivery of the A380, stating that they had received warnings of delays from Airbus - which is already two years behind schedule on production of the superjumbo.

Yes QR , EK and Etihad are clearly trying to outdo each other in terms of market share and aircraft .
But seriously i think that Etihad ( sorry i'm new to Airliners and don't know their 2 letter code lol ) will order up to and including 100 aircraft. From what i understand more 777's possibly a mix of ER'S and LR'S as they are trying to break into new markets. And definately more A380'S. I don't think that they will order any more A345'S/A346'S as they have stated that their wish is to transport large amounts of PAX to their sestinations. From this i can only pin point that their desired aircarft is the A380.

EY. But don't worry. Many people are unfamiliar with lots of codes. More often than not, I prefer to use the full airline name - if only because I'm fed up having to look up all the codes that I don't know!
Quoting AA7295 (Reply 2): Let's hope its a Boeing order just for the sake of diversity in the region. It would get boring seeing A350's after A350's taking off.
Qatar have already placed a substantial order for 787s and I fully expect Emirates to end up with some 787s alongside their A350s.
As for Etihad, they have built their success principally on the back of the A330 and I'd be astonished if they don't order the A350. Equally, they had no hesitation to buy the 777. I'm not sure I can see them take more 777s but an order for 787s wouldn't surprise me. Indeed, Etihad look like a good candidate for a mix of 787s and larger A350s.
So, more A380s (yes), some 787s and some A350s. That's my guess.

I'm pretty sure that they would be ordering :
A 320s for regional / low density flights as they currently are leasing few A 319s and A 320s.
A 332s for expanding into Africa, Europe and the Far East.
B 777-200LRs for new nonstop flights to USA, Australia and Brazil.
A 380s to specifically compete head on against EK-QR-QF-SQ.
I would be really surprised to see an order placed for A 340s and B 748s. An order for half a dozen B 773ERs may not come as a total surprise too...50-50 chance I reckon!

I was reading up on Abu Dhabi yesterday and they want to project themselves as a vibrant, modern, 21st century place. Airbus is the correct brand to match that image and with aircraft to suit all its needs on all routes. Agreed, the T7's would make a nice diversion.
Rainmaker, Not sure your post added anything worthy to the thread.

Just what the 'ell are you talking about?
I agree. Are you insinuating the Boeing exhibits and outdated, distant, 19th Century image? If anything, Boeing planes are more aesthetically pleasing than Airbus aircraft. But let's not turn this into an A vs B thread.
I think with this particular order, delivery dates will determine who will win the order. As Emirates has secured quite a large number of delivery slots, Etihad will want aircraft sooner to counter Emirates.

No it wouldn't.
Curious that a row of A350s taking off after each other would be boring, but a row of B787s would not be. Is this a new entry for a.net factoids?
It seems to be the same sort of surprise that Qantas was mad enough to buy some Airbus, whereas having a fleet of 747s and 767s was the natural order of things.
Stop press, the world has changed.
The A350 and the B787 seem to complement each other more than they are rivals, well that is assuming either of them ever gets to fly.
