Hey all,

Awhile back I had a thread about NW's longhaul fleet utilization. Now with the addition of quite a few new routes I thought I'd post an "updated" route/utilization synopsis. Keep in mind, this is only a rough summary of how the fleet is utilized as obviously the aircraft are constantly rotated around the system. But, it gives you a good idea.

757-200 (Atlantic):
1) DTW-AMS-DTW
2) DTW-DUS-DTW
3) DTW-LGW-DTW
4) BOS-AMS-BOS
5) BDL-AMS-BDL
6) EWR-AMS-EWR
7) EWR-AMS-EWR
8)
9)
10)

A330-200:
1) SEA-NRT-ICN
2) ICN-SEA-NRT
3) PDX-NRT-SIN
4) SIN-NRT-PDX
5) SFO-NRT-SFO
6) SEA-AMS-BOM
7) BOM-AMS-SEA
8) PDX-AMS-PDX
9) SEA-PEK
10) PEK-SEA
11) SEA-LHR-SEA

A330-300:
1) DTW-AMS-DTW
2) DTW-AMS-DTW
3) DTW-CDG-DTW
4) DTW-FRA-DTW
5) DTW-LHR-DTW
6) BOS-AMS-BOS
7) MEM-AMS-MEM
8) MSP-AMS-MSP
9) MSP-AMS-MSP
10) MSP-AMS-MSP
11) MSP-LHR-MSP
12) MSP-CDG-MSP
13) MSP-HNL-MSP
14) HNL-NRT-HNL
15) HNL-KIX-HNL
16) NRT-GUM-NRT
17) NRT-SPN-NRT
18) NRT-BKK-NRT
19) SEA-NRT-SEA (3x weekly)
20)
21)

747-400:
1) DTW-NRT-PVG
2) PVG-NRT-DTW
3) DTW-NRT-HNL
4) HNL-NRT-DTW
5) MSP-NRT-MNL
6) MNL-NRT-MSP
7) LAX-NRT-HKG
8) HKG-NRT-LAX
9) DTW-NGO-MNL
10) MNL-NGO-DTW
11) DTW-KIX-TPE
12) TPE-KIX-DTW
13) DTW-PVG (until 787)
14) PVG-DTW (until 787)
15) DTW-AMS-DTW (summer only)
16)

With the new route introductions, it seems most the entire longhaul fleet is running at or near max capacity now, especially the A332's. It seems the only other routes they can realistically add are with 75A's, which somewhat limits them in options. Maybe MAN, DUB, or the resumption of BRU or the 2nd FRA.

All comments, observations, and corrections appreciated  bigthumbsup

Only 8 of the B757's with winglets can fly ETOPS.

as of today, NWA can always put WBC seat in the last two and paint ETOPS on the NLG door.

Is there a market, do you think, for NW to ETOPS more 757s and outfit them for TATL flying? Ireland, the UK, the low countries, and Scandinavia are all in range for the 757s from DTW. Then again, with the DL merger, this should probably make it so there is a less of a need for these aircraft.

remember that by the time NW starts DTW-PVG and SEA-PEK, it will be part of DL and there is no assurance that some of the routes listed here might be flown by DL aircraft or the total number of flights (esp. to AMS) might be reduced. Also, many of these aircraft will be in ATL by the summer of 2009 while DL 767s will be flying some of these routes.

After NW changed flight numbers in Asian route, isn't it changed some of route pairs? e.g. LAX-NRT-HKG changed to LAX-NRT-MNL....etc

Since NW is merged with DL, when will NW fly with DL color schemes? can we see DL flying this route in near future?

Has not been approved by the government. So won't see anything till then.

anyone want to make a prediction about how DL will slot the NW flight numbers into DL's flight number system? Most of the 200s are available in DL's flight number range which should be enough to accommodate NW's current flights. There is still alot of growth coming so there will need to be alot more flight numbers.

I am looking at the new schedule. Did anyone notice that from june BKK changes frequency?
BKK 645p 1205a 27 332
BKK 700p 1140p 21 333 X456
BKK 700p 1140p 21 333 X23

What's up with that?

It looks like up through June 4th there are a lot of frequency changes. Is this for aircraft reshuffling?

19) SEA-NRT-SEA (3x weekly)

If this is correct, where is the aircraft utilized when not on this route (the other four days)? Could it be used as a spare, undergo maintenance, etc.? Sorry if the answer's written there and I'm just not seeing it.
