Hi,
Duxford has been a local attraction to me for years. I have been going there since I was 2.
One thing that stays firmly in my mind, from a very young age, was seeing the tail of what from memory appears to be an Ansett Airlines tri-jet. I'm pretty sure it could have been a Tristar as I vaguely recall seeing the words on the fuselage.
The livery had stars with and similar colours to Ansett but I have searched plansespotters.net and Ansett never seemed to operate the Tristar or DC-10, and it definitely wasn't a 727! So could this have been Lockheed's house colours for the Tristar? Was it a demo flight? Did I dream it? If it was there - where did it go!!!?
It would have been early to mid-eighties and definitely at Duxford, unless i'm going mad!
Can anyone confirm this?

If memory serves Annsett was blue with stars but the only tri they have used was the 727 they have used several t tailed types and Lockheed house scheme was red but the 146(see below) although not a tri has been to Dux and the Tristar would not have been doing demos any more since it was a seventy's build http://cdn-www.airliners.net/photos/small/9/5/7/1178759.jpg

I remember going to a Duxford airshow in the mid 80's, where a BAe test pilot demonstrated the STOL characteristics of the BAe 146; I seem to recall that this was in Ansett colours. I have some slides of it stored away somewhere

This would make sense.
Although I can't shake the memory and have a really distinct picture in my head of it being a tri-jet. It was parked in the same place the VC10 currently is now, it was a gorgeous summers day and as a kid I looked up and saw stars with coloured trails on the tail. I do remember thinking the livery was very similar to the name of the a/c, Tristar.
Going there next month for the last airshow of the year so will prod someone in the know for n answer!

I don't know about Duxford, but there was definitely a Tristar which sat at Cambridge airport in the time frame you mention, and certainly 1985-1988, because I used to pass it driving from Cambridge to London almost daily. It was also definitely white with the red engine covers, but I couldn't definitively say if it were Ansett or not as I can't recall specific markings on it.
So no, you're not going mad, but you might be thinking of Cambridge because one definitely sat there close to a hanger directly facing the A11 (as it was then I think), but I haven't been there since 1988 so have no idea after that.
