Would Gordon Bethune Run A New CO/UA?

Although there is no concrete evidence to support the merger itself, except for 'inside sources', if a CO/UA merger were to happen who better to run the new airline than Gordon himself? The man turned CO upside down and made it one of the best carriers we have in the skies today.

The other two candidates would obviously be Glen Tilton or Larry Kellner. Being that it looks like CO is the one pursuing the merger its safe to assume Kellner would take the helm. Kellner was originally perceived by employees as a numbers guy but has done alot to change that perception.

It might be wishful thinking but it would be nice to have Bethune CEO of what would become the USA's largest airline. The only thing that seems to be going against him is his age, which I think is 63/64. Of course, most big corporations have mandatory retirement ages for top officers.

One can only hope...

IF is the operative word, which makes your thread title misleading.

They shouldn't go w/ UA. The fleet commentality would be an issue, with UA's Airbus fleet, and CO's all boeing fleet. Also, there would be some overlap along the east coast with IAD and EWR. CO should go with AS, and UA with US(or remain alone).

CNBC ran a piece on Friday August 11th talking about how both carriers were in possible talks and CO was the pursuing carrier. They also made mention of the Businessweek article that had an "insider" close to both sides saying there was talk between the two.
