This is for all of you "old timers" (just kidding), I was born in 1984. I was going to ask what any of you remember being served on UAX flights back in the 1980's (146, E120, S-360, etc). Today we serve the infamous Fiesta Snack Mix, but I have always wondered if the food was any better on identical flights when I was just a kid.

For prepackaged process food, the snack boxes that UA serves aren't too horribly bad. Although on a 2.5 hour flight in first class, I would definitely expect more. When mainline use to operate the same flights, there were fresh meals, and I'm not talking about way back when, but rather a year ago.

On short flights on small aircraft, there have never been huge hot meals or something. Even in the 1960s or 1980s, the typical service on a 45 minute flight on a 30 seater would been a cup of juice/water/coke and peanuts.
I remember a nice cold meal plate in a Frontier Convair 580 between Denver and Jackson Hole in 1980 though, but that flight took about 100 minutes.
Most noticable service cuts and deteriation of in flight service are in domestic flights (or flights within Europe) between 1-5 hours, considering intercontinental service on most airlines is still about as good as ever (of course at some airlines it became worse but others became better).
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?
