Just curious - I was flying through Phoenix this past Thursday night 12/22 from SFO and landed about 8PM local time. While landing, I looked towards Terminal 3 (Northwest, Delta, etc.) and happened to notice a Northwest DC-10 attached to a jetway at the end of the terminal.
It seemed strange to me that there was a Northwest DC-10 in Phoenix.
Would anyone know why this was the case? Perhaps it's a regularly scheduled flight, but that seems very odd to me if it is the case.

could it have been an NFL charter? didnt the Phila. Eagles play in PHX that weekend??? now, usually they get in the day before the game, but maybe because of it being the christmas weekend they got in early.
just a guess...

FYI: NWA DC-10s have been serving PHX for years...not only as charters. In the late 1990s, I saw two at the gates at one time. (Maybe not regular visitors anymore, but I's be willing to bet maybe the 753 is, in replace of the DC-10s that is)

Quoting Burnsie28 (Reply 9): True but its been about two years since Northwest served PHX with DC-10's, they were eliminated with the arrival of the 753.
What a shame really,...when NW first received its 744's they used to fly them to PHX so their pilots could get time on the type. There was a time when NW, UA, and AA regularly flew DC-10s into PHX, and TWA had nonstop service to JFK on an L1011. That was around the sametime you could fly on an HP 747 to Japan!

Yes that DC10 brought the eagles to PHX and then was a ferry flight that left about 0630 on the 23Dec for OKC to take the OU Sooners to MZY for the Holiday bowl. Now there will be a NW 744 that will fly the Sooners from MZY to OKC on 30Dec.
