When WN started service in PHL a few months ago, a friend of mine was planning to use them for a future trip to visit his family out in Spokane, WA.
At the time he checked the various itineraries and fares to get an idea what was available via WN. He didn't book a reservation, he was just getting info.
Fast forward to last September, he started planning for a trip to Spokane for sometime in early 2005. He went into WN's website to make a reservation; to his surprise, WN would not allow him to make a r/t PHL-GEG connecting itinerary.
What the deal, here?
It's not like GEG is close to PHL distancewise nor GEG has a Wright Ammendment of its own. One can build a PHL-SEA or a PHL-PDX connecting itinerary; why not GEG, especially since it was offered before?
Any WN a.netters out there care to offer some insights as towards this?

There are a lot of city pairs within the Southwest network that you cannot fly between b/c of the number of connections/stops required and the timing of flights between cities.
This is especially true for the smaller stations. I suppose if you tried hard enough you could work an itenarary between Philly and Spokane, but that would likely require more stops and plane changes than Southwest allows.
This is one disadvantage of flying Southwest. As many of their markets are focused at O&D travel and they do not operate true banked hubs some cities simply cannot connect to other cities.

Even prior to their introduction of non-stop JAX-PHL service, one cannot even price out a connecting itinerary on them.
Oh well, I'll continue flying US Airways as long as they are around, with (soon to be) four daily non-stops JAX-PHL and another half dozen connecting opportunities.

Reservations shows service PHL-MDW-SEA, and SEA-GEG-SEA, but shows no service eastbound SEA-MDW-PHX, even though a long connection could be made in MDW. Given that you lose time going "against the clock" eastbound, the only way the flights would work out would be:

From my original post:
why not GEG, especially since it was offered before?
If one has a July 2004 WN timetable, there was one PHL-GEG connection itinerary and I think one GEG-PHL itinerary listed. So the main issue surrounding my earlier question was why was the connecting service offered then but not now?

Sorry I misunderstood...
Probably because the flight schedules changed and viable connections no longer existed... The lack of a same-day eastbound connecton was probably the key to pulling the city-pair...

It also depends on how far ahead you are looking to book. WN schedules pretty tight and you should check often. You can book through PDX with connection times that are not too long or short.

i just got into philly on tuesday and am here for the week, along the way i picked up a swa timetable dated sept15, and i was looking at this last night for you. it looks like both ways swa doesnt list, but could offer connecting service from phl-geg through lax. westbound, take the nonstop to lax, sit for a couple of hours, then it's a one-stop flight up to geg. on the return, early morning departure out of geg, one-stop to lax, then the eastbound nonstop lax-phl. surprised they dont list this connection.
