Hi B2443;
The flight was specially exciting for me because that was my first B767 experience! Although it sucked on the first leg because I could not get a window seat! (I had no idea Air China flew to Vienna, let alone connect via Sharjah!!)
The service was ok. I was at the economic section, and this was back in 1994, so keep in mind the service has probably much more improved by now. Flight time was about 6.5hrs. We were served noodles with some vegtables, choices were: Chiecken or Vegetarian. If you had Veg. that was already being served to you, but I asked for chicken, and guess what?!! I was handed a packaged chicken broth to pour over my noodles, basically for flavoring purpose only! I thought it was rather sneaky yet abit funny! Forget about the earphones! Couldnt hear anything, they were the plastic tubes to conduct the sound directly from the plug-ins to your ears!
OVERALL, believe it or not I enjoyed it! It was my forst B767 flight, I was surprised by the finding out about the airline on those routes, and I had never been to SHJ, so there were a whole bunch of "first-timers" for me!

Hi B727fan,
Thanks for your story. In the 80s and early 90s, CA's flights to Europe made routine stops along the way, in locations such as Karachi, or Rome then continuing on to Lisbon. But SHJ-VIE was little surprising, letting along permitted to pick up pax at SHJ.
I was handed a packaged chicken broth to pour over my noodles,
That was just so funny, lol. Considering China is known for its cuisines, I've always been disappointed in CA's in-flight meals.

It's gonna be crowded on the MUC-PEK route, with thrice weekly A343 service by Lufthansa already operating and Air China and VARIG joining the party soon. Since Lufthansa code shares on all Air China flights ex Frankfurt and VARIG is a Star Alliance member, is Lufthansa going to code share on all of these flights?

B727fan never knew CA were still in Sharjah in the 90's thought that service was scrapped in the 80's, they flew there as CAAC are you sure it wasnt 1984?.
This service will make Air China the fourth Chinese carrier to fly to the UAE, and the second to operate from Beijing, others are China Southern at Dubai(777) and Sharjah(757), Cathay Pacific/Cargo(773/A330/747F) and Dragon Air Cargo(747F) at Dubai and/or Sharjah.
CZ also operate via Beijing to both DXB and SHJ.
Previously Dubai would also get EVA Air in the 90's and China Airlines in the 80's, while Abu Dhabi had Mandarin in the 90's which was replaced by China Airlines who quit in 2003.
