In addition to the Usual Flights 15, 27 and 49 from London, and Flight 75 from Manchester, there is another flight coming in from Manchester (unfortunately it is just a 742- I was kind of hoping for an A340-600 for once). Flight 79P.
They will probably all be in at once, so all of those Virgin tails around Airside 4 will look kind of cool
Airline Virgin Atlantic Airways

I think its absolutely amazing that Virgin Atlantic operates so many flights to Orlando in one day! Above that, British Airways operates a flight of its own! Is the travel demand so great that VS and BA are able to operate these flights with such astounding frequency???
I only flew once with BA out of Orlando, it was a B777-200 and from what I can remember it was completely full. However, can anyone give me a word on how the load factors are on the remaining three (and in this case fourth) VS flights? If you think about it, the B747 can carry up to about 380 passengers...times three flights that's over a thousand passengers just in one day for VS!!

It's not an extra flight. Its just because all the MAN-MCO Virgin services have been running 24hrs late over the past few days, so they're putting the second B742 on for today's to make up and stop knock on effects. You will still see 5 there though.

Going to MEA321's comment, there is a huge number of UK tourists coming to central Florida each year . Not only does MCO see these flights from the UK but SFB (Orlando-Sanford) also receives a great deal of flights from the UK (especially on Sats) from Monarch,Air 2000,My Travel,Brittania,European, Air Atlanta Europe, Thomas Cook- among other.

I think the main reason for putting the second flight on today was because well it's half term and the best day to go is Saturday because you can then go for a week and get back on sunday, so Virgin Atlantic presumed there'd be more kids on the flight and if they all knocked on then they'd end up missing school on monday as that would be when the aircraft would have arrived back. I don't know what caused the initial delay of the regular service but i've heard that the B742's have been "playing up" recently, prime example is when TF-ATN (?) went tech and had to be replaced with G-VGAL for a few of the flights.
There have been a lot of delays recently, noticably Monarch long hauls. I think there was one flight that came in from Varadero into Gatwick on wednesday or thursday that arrived at 0140 the next morning. Then there were flights to Tobago and Barbados that were due to follow (i'm not sure which one got the aircraft, if any because their delays weren't as big, as opposed to the manchester one) and a flight to Holguin from Manchester. That arrived in the afternoon after the morning it was due. Its all knocked on, and thats why I'm reading MON365 Manchester-Orlando 6hrs 25mins late. Also there were two or three MyTravel flights that were hit by delays for some reason from Dalaman. The Manchester one arrived 24hrs late this afternoon. And there's also the Britannia that was due into Gatwick from Puerto Plata this morning is now expected at around 2300 tonight.
I'm not sure about Miami, when did you see it take off at 0900? It's been taking off early the past few days.
Anyway in response to Chepos post, i supply you with todays UK charter arrivals into Sanford:
13:30 Manchester - Sanford --- Britannia Airways (B767)
13:35 Manchester - Sanford --- Monarch Airlines (A330)
13:40 Manchester - Sanford --- MyTravel Airways (Most likely A330)
14:00 Birmingham - Sanford --- MyTravel Airways (Most likely A330)
15:05 Manchester - Sanford --- Britannia Airways (B767)
15:25 Gatwick - Sanford --- Air 2000 (B767)
15:45 Gatwick - Sanford --- Air Atlanta Europe (B747)
15:50 Gatwick - Sanford --- MyTravel (Most likely A330)
15:55 Manchester - Sanford --- Air 2000 (B767)
16:25 Gatwick - Sanford --- European AirCharter (B747)
16:25 Gatwick - Sanford --- Thomas Cook (A330)
That's all i can see at the moment although i'm guessing there will be another B747 from European AirCharter and some more!

I have been seeing the BA flight and the Virgin flights taking off an hour later than normal this week, but I remember that was usually the case up at DTW too during the week of daylight savings time. Europe and USA change their clocks back at different times.
I remember at DTW last year the BA and LH flights coming in an hour early during the spring right after the clocks changed. I am assuming this is the case at MCO too, but instead an hour late. I can't explain why planes are leaving really late though, but it will be cool to see the five 747s take off today.

I would say judging by the flight number, VS79P that it is a positioning flight. Just about every airline I know that puts a 'P' on the end of the flight number will be operating that flight as a positioning flight, i.e. ferry flight - no pax/bags/cargo etc.
Mia777,
The MIA flight was delayed as the Captain was taken ill so was delayed whilst another Captain could be positioned to MIA to operate the a/c back.

The air2000 757 flight into Sanford today was operating on behalf of Childflight, a UK charity, and was carrying 59 children suffering from serious or life-threatening illnesses together with their families and carers.
I doubt there were any complaints from those children that the flight was on a 757.

Oh my dear, it brings a tear to my eye just thinking about suffering children flying what will probably be their only ever flight (well return). Although i think these flights are a good idea, i just hate hearing about them, it makes me so sad
Does anybody know what happened to the other two B767's of Air 2000, G-OOAO and G-OOAM i think. Where are they? It says on various sites that they don't exist or don't fly for the airline?

The CAA database lists G-OOAO as deregistered and transferred to France in December 2001, and G-OOAM deregistered and transferred to the USA in May this year.

There definitely were 5 747s today with Virgin, I seen them all take off over my apartment 3 miles North of MCO. Well three of the 747s took off and made an immediate bank to the northeast and were higher up on take off, but two others took off right over my apartment and heading more north/northwest and were much lower on take off.

TF-ATW is currently aog in MCO so TF-ATN has been flying the regular VS75/76 services and Air Atlanta TF-ATC did an extra VS79P/VS176 on Sat to rescue those stranded down there.
TF-ATW will position back to MAN when serviceable.

How will Virgin react if these 742s start getting a bit unreliable? Will they be unhappy with Air Atlanta?? Not good if a sub-charterer starts to damage your reputatuion.
On a side note... can anyone explain why the MyTravel 767s have been so unreliable this summer?? How old are those a/c compared to the BY and AMM machines?? Perhaps they need a rest in the winter lol!... instead of being packed off to Indonesia!!! hehehe

The Air Atlanta aircraft that operate the Manchester flights are ex-Virgin aircraft (G-VSSS and one other, might be G-VBEE?). I think they are supposed to be re-registered into Virgin registrations as they are now operating the MAN-MCO flights year round.
I don't think the MyTravel B767's are going to Garuda. I know three Premiair A330's are going to Garuda from December 10th/24th/26th all returning on the 12th March. G-OMYT and G-MLJL are both going to Premair to make up for lost aircraft, while a SkyService A330-300 (C-FBUS) arrived at Gatwick at 03:00am this morning to make up for the MyTravel (UK) A330's going to Premair. There is no talk of the B767-300's going to Garuda as far as i know.

I'm just wondering where you got the information about the flight. With altitude and everything, before it took off? I have flight explorer but without knowing ahead of time I would never find this information out. So where do I find out about unusual flights?

The flights heading Northwest were the 2 B747-200's, so they were the two Manchester flights. They were probably taking a more northerly route across the Atlantic. It was probably just the flight path avoiding traffic from other airports. Hey watch out for me next April (19th). I'll be on VS016 on the right side just behind the wing

Sometimes the flights route inland towards Charleston to join the NAT tracks, other times they route over the coast towards Bermuda, depending on forecast winds and destination. Maybe on Sat the MAN flights were planned in land.

I found it a little strange that they headed northwest while the other 3 headed northeast. The only times I have had the Virgin and the BA flights depart directly over my apartment or to the west of it was in the summer if there was a thunderstorm nearby to the east.
