Cost Advantages Of Not Completing An Itinerary

Here is my question for those of you who are knowledgeable in this field, keeping in mind that I live closest to JFK/LGA airports.

I am lookin for the best deal to go from the NYC area to BNA on August 21st and return on August 22nd.

On DL, I did a search and got a fare of $120 RT but I would have to depart and return into PHL.

Here is the thing. On the return flight from BNA the connection would be at JFK and then on into PHL. But what would happen if I simply did not get on the connecting flight to PHL? Can DL charge me the difference in airfare?

I priced the itinerary just like that, from PHL to BNA and then BNA to JFK and the price comes to $430.00.

I know one can consider this cheating the system but why bother getting on the JFK to PHL flight when I would just have to drive back to NYC anyway? So, what if anything can the airline do to me for not getting on the JFK to PHL flight?

Thank you

Theoretically, yes, but there is a very slim chance it will happen. The airlines go after repeat offenders. I personally did it once to go from SBA to LAX. The nonstop was $700 (for a 20 minutes flight). SBA-OAK via LAX was $71.

Just don't make it a habbit.

"Why does a slight tax increase cost you $200 and a substantial tax cut save you 30 cents?"

I dont want to take the chance and have them charge me the difference or even worse, can they suspend my skymiles account or cancel it? I guess I have to outweigh the risk to the benefit.

Don't check any luggage and don't make it a practice you would do often.

Life is a highway, I just can't find the on ramp. Cheers!

Unless you blatantly announce your intentions to every DL employee you see and try to be a real jerk about it, nothing will happen. Just don't check any bags, only miss the last flight on a ticket, and don't do it too frequently.
