Is It Worth Upgrading To The Canon 40D?

I currently have to 400D, and am wondering if i should go in for an upgrade to the 40D. My main attraction is a new model and spot metering plus a more solid body.

Can anyone help me out and advise me if it worth the upgrade ?

Regards
Nitin

Well never had a 400D but I upgraded from a 20D and it has been very good. The only thing it come with less of is dust!

If I were you, I'd keep the 400D until it dies and then change to whatever Canon has brought out at that time (45D, 50D, whatever). The 40D is a great cam (I have one, coming from a 10D), but the difference between the 400D is not all that great to ratify an upgrade now, I think.

I went up from the XTi (400D) to the 40D. Absolutely worth every penny. Between the upgraded IQ, faster frame rate, and better dust control, I do not regret upgrading.

Try looking for an occasion. Professional bodies are popping up like daisies now that the Mark3 is out. I picked up a used Mk2 (15.000 frames, 10/10 condition) for 1100 euro's.

To me, that was dirt cheap. I am having loads of fun with what can only be described as a superb camera.

Don't know what your game is, but its worth thinking about.

Hi Nitin

Don't know which lenses you own but I'd rather get a new lens than the body. You won't get much for the 400D these days if you need to sell it also.

Which is something I never thought of. Get a new lens, the body is fine as it is.

Thanks guys

I already have the 18-55 stock, the 16-35 L, the 70-200 F4L, 100-400 L and the Sigma 8mm fisheye.

Just saw the 40D and really liked it. Hence i was asking.

Regards
Nitin

I have a feeling that with the glass equipment that you have now you wouldn't have much of a need for new lenses. I just received my 40D three days ago. I upgraded from a 350D and I already know that I'll like it. But in retrospect I would rather have a 100-400L with my 350D then my current situation of 70-300 IS with the 40D....But there's always time to save for the kind of lenses that YOU have  Wink

If you have the cash, Id recommend it. Besides....new equipment must be tested right? I figure thats a perfect excuse to get out in the field and give the new camera an old test drive....maybe the creative juices will start flowing

Just food for thought
